Joined the unit shortly before they shipped out; his enlistment record shows that his date of departure was October 22 1944 and his arrival was November 2 1944. Kimmel joined the army at the age of 34 in December 1943 at Camp Blanding, Florida. He had moved back the United States from Cuba earlier that year so he could enlist in the military. |
